The group phase is over. Now it gets serious with the Champions League Round of 16 that will determine the teams to advance or be disqualified in 2 legs. The 16 teams are: Basel, Man City, Juventus, Tottenham, Real Madrid, PSG, Porto, Liverpool, Bayern, Besiktas, Chelsea, Barcelona, Shakhtar, Roma, Sevilla, Man United. The First leg is on Feb 13 and 14, 20 and 21 and, the second legs in March. The scenario? Still the same. Barcelona will make it through. It’s obvious, isn’t it? There simply is no team capable of challenging Barcelona. Bayern is nowhere near as strong as they have been in the past, Man United & City, Liverpool, Tottenham are not even of the same class, Real Madrid is falling apart. The others are not even worth mentioning. And this has been the scenario for the last quite a few years. One or two Spanish teams make it to the final 4 (Barcelona, Real, Atletico) and one of them takes the trophy home. Boring as hell.
It makes you wonder why. Is it really that great the difference with the other clubs? I do not think so. Messi and Ronaldo may be the greatest of them all but football is a TEAM sport. And it has been proven on the field countless times when both Argentina and Portugal have been eliminated or lost in finals even when these 2 were present.
